GOBA Day 2: Orrville to New Philadelphia

It was another beautiful bicyling day as we pedaled out of Orrville (hometown of Smuckers and Bobby Knight) on our way south and east to New Philadelphia (aka New Philly, or just Philly). Our route took us through Amish country, and in fact we would encounter Amish farmers and woodworkers and families every day through the rest of the trip. I respect their wish not to be photographed (exception on Day 7). Bicycle touring is a great way to observe Amish culture up close without being obtrusive.

After conquering a few good hills, we finally made it to the Tuscarawas river valley near Dover and headed south to New Philly. In Dover, we stopped to visit Nancy and Bob's aunt Martha at her home. Since it was an unannounced visit, we stayed only a half hour and took no photos.

We arrived in Tuscora park midafternoon after 51 miles of riding, and pitched the tent on a shaded hillside.

Nancy and Bob's mother Kay drove up from Byesville to pick us up, and we spent the night with her on the family farm.
