Your MyITLab Assignment

What is MyITLab?

MyITLab is a set of web-based resources configured for our textbook and course. I have carefully selected certain resources to be available to you and selectively assigned Office 2007 online training components. They are available through www.myitlab.com. You have to register with MyITLab before you can access its resources. More details below.

How do I register for MyITLab?

You need two pieces of information to register for MyITLab. One is the Course ID, which I will give you. The other is an access code which is provided with a new (not used) copy of our course textbook. If you have borrowed someone else's copy of the textbook, you can purchase an access code on the www.myitlab.com web site for $65.

Once you have the course ID and access code, go to www.myitlab.com and click the "Students" button under "FIRST-TIME USERS register here". Follow the directions. It is a two-stage process, register using your Access Code then enroll in the course using the Course ID.

How do I use MyITLab on a day-to-day basis?

MyITLab will only work with Internet Explorer 7 or 8 under Windows. It does not work for any other web browser or on a Mac. Sorry.

Once registered and enrolled, the normal procedure you will follow is to launch Internet Explorer then browse to www.myitlab.com. Click the "Students" button under "LOGIN if you have an existing account".

Once logged in, browse to the desired course by selecting "View All Content" from the "Course Content" menu. Alternatively, click the calendar date for the course due date if available.

Can I use MyITLab in a location other than Towers 107B?

Yes, with two caveats. One is, MyITLab requires you to run an Installation Wizard on a computer before using it to run MyITLab. The Installation Wizard is available on the www.myitlab.com home page. The second is, you must have "administrator rights" on that computer for the required browser Plug-In to be installed. You do not have administrator rights for any Otterbein lab computers. All is not lost however.

Otterbein labs pre-configured for MyITLab include Towers 107B, Library 200, and Roush 204. You will not be able to run MyITLab in other Otterbein labs. Sorry for the inconvenience. You can install and run MyITLab on your own laptop or PC.

Is the textbook available through MyITLab?

The full textbook is not available through MyITLab. However PowerPoint presentations and end-of-chapter self-test questions are available for each chapter.

OK, I'm ready! What's My Assignment?

I have configured Ten (10) different Office 2007 Courses for you to complete online by the end of the quarter. Not all are assigned at once.

Each course is worth a maximum of 10 points, for maximum 100 points total. Scoring is explained below. Courses will be assigned and due dates will be posted as needed. In general the due dates will not be "hard"; you will continue to receive credit after these dates. However, a course due date is generally scheduled just before I assign a project that uses material from that course.

How I Do Complete a Course?

For each course I have provided you links to a PowerPoint presentation and a Study Plan. The PowerPoint is a good information resource. The Study Plan consists of three parts: Pre-Test, Training, and Post-Test. All parts of the Study Plan use a full-screen Windows/Office simulator that is very realistic. You will be given a set of tasks to complete and will carry out those tasks using the keyboard and mouse as though you were actually using the system.

The Pre-Test is used to get a sense of what you already know. Its score is recorded by MyITLab but is not counted in your grade. You can save a partially-completed Pre-Test and come back to it later but you may only submit it once. You cannot proceed to the Training until you submit your attempt.

The Training is designed to help you learn how to complete the tasks you didn't complete correctly in the Pre-Test. It also uses the simulator, although the tasks may differ somewhat. While in Training, you can request hints or request a demonstration. After the hint or demonstration, you will be asked to perform the task yourself. You are led through the series of tasks sequentially but have the option to jump to any task at any time. You cannot proceed to the Post-Test until you have successfully completed all the tasks.

The Post-Test is similar to the Pre-Test, except: (1) you get two attempts instead of one, (2) you cannot save it and come back later, and (3) your score counts! If you score less than 100% on your first attempt, you can repeat the Training for the tasks that you missed then repeat the Post-Test. Your Post-Test score is in the range 0-100%. I will translate your percentage score into points as follows: If 85% or higher, you get 10 points. If lower than 85%, you get the percentage divided by 10 then rounded. So for 68% you get 7 points, for 82% you get 8 points, and so forth.

Do I Need to Report my Completion or Score?

No. The MyITLab database will maintain all yours scores.
