Glee Club Tour

As a Men's Glee Club alumnus I may be prejudiced, but I believe that the single-sex groups had the most fun on tour of all. There are certainly innumerable stories that could be told from all of the groups that went on tours. The following story about the Women's Glee Club is one of the best I know. I received it it from Dotty Sardinha Pickering, '60.

On this particular tour during the late 50's the group had gone to New York City. They had walked a few blocks from their hotel to their concert, given the concert, and were walking back to the hotel with Prof. L.L. Shackson (right) and Mrs. Shackson leading the group of about 35 college women down the sidewalk. The women were aware of the ice cream shop that was along the way and had prepared for it. As they approached the shop they all sang out in unison, "Daddy, we want an ice cream cone."

I'm told that even the blasé New Yorkers turned their heads at that, and the women got their ice cream cones.
