Seek Whence

The object of the Seek Whence game is to discover the mathematical rule that determines the terms in a given sequence. Below, you will be given the first 5 terms in a sequence. To win, you must give the next 5 terms in the sequence. You may check your answers at any time by clicking the Check Answers button.

If you solve a given sequence or tire of it, you may click the New Sequence button to generate a new sequence. Some sequences are almost trivial to solve, but others are quite challenging. At some level, the game is fundamentally unfair since an infinite number of sequences could follow from any 5 term prefix.

The name "Seek Whence" is an homage to Douglas Hofstadter and the similar problem described in his book Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies.
