Welcome! My professional goal is to help faculty, staff and students with the effective and appropriate use of technology. I have a background in instructional technology and for most of the past twenty five years I've worked in the corporate sector designing and developing instructional systems. The companies with which I have worked read like a Fortune 500 list - Aetna (insurance), Albertson's (retail), American Express (financial), Apollo Travel Services (transportation), Ashland/Valvoline (retail), AT&T (telecommunications), Bell South (telecommunications), CitiGroup (financial), Elder Beerman (retail), Follet Bookstores (retail), Footlocker (retail), John Deere (manufacturing and information systems), The Limited (retail), Lucent Technologies (telecommunications), McDonald's (hospitality), MetLife (insurance), NCR (manufacturing and information systems), Oracle (information systems), Pfizer (pharmaceutical), Paychex (financial), Payless ShoeSource (retail), PriceWaterhouse Cooper (financial), Target (retail), Total Petroleum (retail), United Airlines (transportation), Strawberries Music Stores (retail), SunTrust Bank (financial), Wal*Mart (retail), Wells Fargo Bank (financial), Westinghouse (manufacturing), Winn-Dixie (retail) and Xerox (information systems). In addition, I have also worked with several smaller companies such as Cadence (information systems) and The Sauce.com (B2B). Outside of the corporate sector I have worked with the Maryland Mass Transit Administration, the University of Cincinnati and the Internal revenue Service. I am happy to have made the transition to academe and am enjoying bringing my experience to the Otterbein community. My areas of expertise within the field of instructional technology are media selection and performance support/performance centered design. As you will discover from these pages, my outside interests focus primarily on odological studies, a field of geography that includes a mix of anthropology, history, and architecture. Specifically, odology is the study of roads (from the Greek odos, meaning 'road') and was first coined by geographer John Brinckerhoff Jackson. My focus includes studies of pre-Interstate highways, diners and independent restaurants, the writings of George R. Stewart and pre-20th century milestones. |
