Lewis Beebe

by Kimberly Roberts

Lewis Beebe was a student at Otterbein who at age 23 entered into the Ohio’s 46th  Volunteer Infantry. He was born on March 13th 1838 in Delaware County, Ohio. I believe he lived most of his life in Sandusky Ohio. Beebe was part of the 46th infantry band regiment. He entered the 46th infantry on October 16th 1861 and was discharged five-month’s later on March 14th 1862. He received a surgeons discharge certification in Savannah, Tennessee the same day the unit marched to Pittsburg Landing to invade on the confederates believed to be there.

Beebe died on July 3rd 1915 of Senile Dementia and was buried on the 5th in Sandusky Ohio. His next of kin was listed as Lucy Sigler. This was the little information I could find on Lewis Beebe however in the Sandusky census and cemetery records there are a lot of Beebe’s listed. I think if further research was done on Beebe it would benefit to research in Sandusky Ohio. Lewis Beebe is one of the soldiers who was honored by his name on Otterbein’s plaque but he did not leave a significant mark at Otterbein or in the war.
