Frederick A. Baker enlisted with the 46th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on October 16, 1861 for a three-year term. He was 27 years
old. Frederick held the position of regimental bandleader during his
entire tour of duty. He served until August 27, 1862 when he was mustered
out along with the rest of the regimental band at Memphis, Tennessee by
order of the War Department. During his time in the 46th Ohio, Mr. Baker
was witness to the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing, or Shiloh, in April 1862,
and to fighting at Corinth, Mississippi at the end of April 1862.
The 46th Ohio Volunteers continued to serve the Union until they were mustered
out on July 22, 1865.
