While living in Pennsylvania Lyman was an itinerant minister for the Wyoming Conference of th e Methodist Episcopal Church. He retired from the ministry due to poor health in 1840 when h e was living in Kingston Township, Luzerne County, PA. At the time he was a partner with Lev i Cooke Rice in the Rice and Mumford Mill in Lehman Township and in a general store. Lyman and Margaret made their home in Pennsylvania on a high hill between Toby's Creek and the Rice homestead on Harris Hill Road. By 1848 he had moved back to New York, and in 1850 he was l iving in Utica, Oneida, NY. In 1883 he was listed as having a dry goods, grocery and crockery store at 16 South Street in Utica and living at 2 Chatham Street. He died of heart disease later that year, on 29 June 1883.

BEAM Margaret R. Beam, age 89, of 120 East Chestnut St., Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mt. Vernon. She was born April 12, 1910 in Columbus to the late John W. Rudin Sr. and Grace (Dann) Rudin. Mrs. Beam spent most of her lifetime in Mt. Vernon where she served on the Board of the Hannah Browning Home since 1951. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon, The Ohio Society of the Mayflower Descendents, the Daughters of American Colonists, and the Town and Country Garden Club. Mrs. Beam was a graduate of the Columbus School for Girls, and Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Surviving are 2 sons, Frank L. Beam of Key Bisquine, Fla. and John D. Beam of Chicago, Ill.; her brother, Walter M. Rudin of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James A. Beam, 1987 and a brother John W. Rudin Jr., 1977. There will be no calling hours. Private burial will be in Mound View Cemetery. A public memorial service will be Monday 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon with Rev. John Fullerton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The FLOWERS-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Vernon, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.

He was involved in many clubs and organizations during his lifetime: VP First Federal Savings and Loan, past Pres. of the YMCA, charter member of Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club & past Lieut. Governor of Kiwanis International, a member of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge in Mount Vernon & 32nd degree Mason, past VP of Region 4 of Boy Scouts of America, state & national Sons of the American Revolution, Mayflower Descendants, past commodore of Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Kentucky Colonel, past Pres. Of Mount Vernon Homestead Club, Telephone Pioneers Assoc., American Legion, Early American Industrialist Ass., curator of the Old Tool Crib Museum. He was also listed in Who's Who in Commerce and Industry and Who's Who in the Midwest.
