Description

Electro-Acoustic Workshop is intended to provide an artistic outlet for users of the Electronic Music Studio.  Participants compose music for electronic media, possibly also in conjunction with acoustic instruments, and then, either individually or as an ensemble, present these original works at the Workshop Recital.

Expectations

A fundamental requirement of the course is that each participant shall compose, either independently or in significant collaboration with classmates, an original work which can be performed by the ensemble on the scheduled recital.  Each student shall also participate in the composing of the group project(s) developed by the entire class. All members of the class shall also rehearse and perform on the recital as required by the music.

Grading

Individual Composition Project .......................... 50%
Compositional Contribution to Group Project .... 25%
Participation in Rehearsal/Performances ............. 25%

Because this class is both a composition class and an ensemble, in addition to the above expectations the following attendance infractions shall result in a specific loss of grade.

     For Rehearsals:
          Two unexcused absences shall result in the loss of one letter grade.
          Four unexcused tardies shall result in the loss of one letter grade.
          Two unexcused tardies plus one unexcused absence shall result in the loss of one letter grade.

     Stage setup and strike:
          All participants are expected to help set and strike the stage for the recital.
          Unexcused failure to participate may result in the loss of one letter grade.

     For Performances:
          One unexcused absence shall result in a failing grade for the term.
          One unexcused tardy may result in the loss of two letter grades.
