Dr. Jackson is Associate Professor
in the Department of Religion and Philosophy, Otterbein College, Westerville,
Ohio, where she teaches biblical studies, women in religion, mythology,
and science and religion. A native of Wisconsin, she holds a B.A.
degree in Christian Education with a minor in music (organ as applied instrument)
from the University of Dubuque and a Ph.D. in religious studies from the
Theology Department at Marquette University in Milwaukee. She has
published numerous articles; her book, "Have Mercy On Me": The Canaanite
Woman in Matthew 15:21-28, is scheduled to be published by Sheffield
Academic Press in 2000. She and Prof. Simon Lawrance received a 1999
Science and Religion Course Competition Award sponsored by the Center for
Theology and the Natural Sciences. She is an active member of many
different professional organizations, including The Jesus Seminar and the
International Society of Biblical Literature for whom she has presented
papers in Hungary, Ireland, Switzerland, Poland and Finland. Prof.
Jackson began her career as an Assistant in Christian Education in El Segundo,
California; she returned to Wisconsin with her husband Gary where, as a
life-long United Methodist, she served in various capacities in the fields
of music and religious education while raising a family of four children
(Wendy, Thad, Mandy, and Adam). She graduated with a Ph.D. the same
summer that her youngest child graduated from high school. Dr. Jackson
is currently an organist at Church of the Messiah in Westerville.
Her hobbies include canoe-camping, biking, and rollerblading.
